I think you have confusing data from both races. Luis Garcia(D) pulled out of the race earlier and is now running for county commissioner,Miami Dade. Still, of the three leading Democrats:Marin , Garcia and Roces, only Marin has rejected money from any special interest funds.Unfortunately, union leadership rushing not to support Roces, an alleged union buster, in a very undemocratic manner did not invite Marin for an interview and decided in favor of Garcia, a mediocre candidate with a significant losing streak in the district.

Garcia has consistently been losing elections in this congressional district(first 25 & now 26) To everyone’s amazament,he even lost the congressional election of 2008, surprisingly a time of Barack Obama’s greatest popularity. In all prior elections Garcia raised significant amounts (in the millions…!!!) since the district was then generally identified to be an important district to win for the the national Democratic party. Unfortunately, he lost again in 2010 against incumbent Rivera.

Roces became a most ilogical choice. She has absolutedly not ties with the district , lives in Broward county, outside of district 26; in the opposite side of Miami Dade & the Keys( in another district and another county..). Ms Roces was chosen by top democrats without any local consultation. Interestingly, she lives on the same district of Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz, who chairs the Democratic campaign committee, but is also not from Dade or Broward.

To many people from within and outside district 26, this primary race is attracting a lot of attention mainly because a candidate like Gustavo Marin, with apparently meager campaign money is getting support from the base of the party in his district and around Miami & the Keys. Marin contrary to the other two, seems to attract independents and moderate republicans, tired of Rivera’s bad image but unsure of committing to other democrats in the race, because of their polarizing views.

I suggest that you inquire more on candidtes like Marin. They are not career politicians or political hacks, but seem to be an emerging trend in our Nation.
