President Obama got his hands on an early copy of Jonathan Frazen’s novel “Freedom” while vacationing in Martha’s Vineyard in August 2010. And though the writer appreciated the nod, Franzen isn’t sure why Obama made time to read his book.

“One of the reasons I love Barack Obama as much as I do is that we finally have a real reader in the White House,” Franzen recently said at an arts festival in Colombia, according to The Telegraph. “It’s absolutely amazing. There’s one of us running the U.S. [Although] when I heard he was reading ‘Freedom’ I thought, ‘Why are you reading a novel? There are important things to be doing!’” (Politico/McDevitt) FloridaLatinConnection/Varona
