Ted Haggard, the former president of the National Association of Evangelicals who was caught in a homosexual sex scandal in 2006, is supporting Newt Gingrich.
Though Gingrich has come under fire for his three marriages and past infidelity, Haggard finds inspiration in Gingrich’s “growth process.”
Haggard explained to Fox News, “I am a Newt Gingrich fan partially because he models resurrection to me. He has been married three times, he has gone through his own infidelity, his own growth process, and his own repentance and renewal of faith, so I trust him because of that.” He added, “It is the heartbreak in life that makes us the people we want to be.”
Out of the limelight for many years as he pieced his career back together, Haggard will be starring in ABC’s “Celebrity Wife Swap” in January. Swapping wives on the show with actor Gary Busey, Haggard said he agreed to a little reality TV to “communicate hope to people.” (Politico/Tanabe)
