Gov. Rick Scott Thursday sent a hand-delivered letter to Enterprise Florida president John A. Adams Jr. telling him he is “determined to move in a different direction” and didn’t need Adams’s help to do so.
On Friday, the Orlando-based public-private partnership — formed in the 1990s to help recruit businesses to come to Florida — said it will cost the cash-strapped state $132,000 in contractual severance payments to buy out Adams. That’s the annual base salary of the Ph.D. from Texas, who was hired five years ago by then-Gov. Jeb Bush.
You can read the Contract here.
Here’s what Scott said about his decision this morning:
“I’m putting together a team of people that I believe are going to move our state forward. I’ve got to make sure that the things I’m focused on, turning the economy around, 700,000 jobs, reducing regulations, filling jobs, making sure we hold government accountable, all those things.
I’m going to surround myself with people I believe will help me get there. I believe I’ll find someone who will help me get there.”
