Another candidate for Fla GOP Chair..

Posted: under Politics, Lifestyle.

Sarasota GOP Chairman Joe Gruters formally announced his candidacy for state GOP chairman today. Gruters, 35, is not as well known as other candidates, including Sidney Dinerstein of Palm Beach, Tony DiMatteo of Pinellas, and Deborah Cox-Roush of Hillsborough, but he also happens to have been an early supporter of Gov-elect Rick Scott.

From Gruters’ statement: If we want to build a permanent majority and continue the momentum in 2012, we must take a long, honest look at ourselves. The next chairman of our party must have the personal humility and graciousness to acknowledge our shortcomings, and combine those attributes with the vision and energy to seek solutions. Simply stated, the next chairman must guide the party to accomplish the following:

We must focus on the core principles that the Republican party was founded on. We must continue to restore faith in the people who lead our party by staying true to those principles and delivering on our promises. We must energize and expand our base.

For two decades, I have been active in the Sarasota County Republican Party, which has traditionally been labeled a “swing county.” I have volunteered in dozens of campaigns, knocked on tens of thousands of doors, and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for our conservative candidates and causes.

As the current Sarasota REC Chairman, I built a strong grassroots organization for the 2010 election. We coordinated over 155,000 GOTV phone calls, organized Republican rallies with thousands in attendance, and helped to raise $500,000 for Governor-elect Rick Scott. As a result, we elected a Republican into every single office and defeated incumbent Democrats in key races.

It is with personal humility and great pride in my party, that I announce my candidacy for Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida.
