Disney says “Let’s Move!”..

Michelle Obama’s childhood obesity campaign is getting another boost — this time from the wonderful world of Disney.

The Walt Disney Co. announced Thursday that it will collaborate with Obama’s Let’s Move! initiative and launch a massive campaign aimed at educating children on eating well and getting enough exercise. The aptly named “Magic of Healthy Living” campaign will comprise a string of public service announcements that will run over the next year and feature Disney stars, including Brenda Song and Nick Jonas, as well as the first lady.

Network sources say eight public service announcements will run on the Disney Channel, which is available in 99 million homes, and sister networks like Disney XD and ABC Kids. The spots will also appear on ABC during family-friendly programs, like “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”

“We can’t just rely on the government to solve this problem,” Let’s Move! Executive Director Robin Schepper said Wednesday on a conference call with reporters. “We’re excited to be teaming up with Disney, and we know we’ll make a difference.”

Schepper said that through the collaboration the program would be able to impact a much larger audience. While she said she would love if children visited the Let’s Move! website, they are “more likely to be watching Disney shows on TV.”

Leslie Goodman, a Senior Vice President for Corporate Responsibility and Philanthropy at Disney, said Obama’s campaign has “done an incredible job of driving national awareness.”

“We’re very excited to be a part of that effort,” Goodman said.
